Skyward
Actually I noticed that a well encoded m4a (which is VBR "Variable Bitrate") allows to keep the sound spectrum's integrity while compressing the sound such an mp3 320. That means you've got the lossless quality for the file size of a classic mp3 320. Any classic mp3 320 is forced at the 20KHz limit. Not the m4a. m4a = apple lossless. I'd better download a WAV or FLAC version though, but the m4a is a very decent alternative if you want to put more tracks for example on an USB key or a SD card to put in your autoradio if your device is compatible with this format. Careful: such mp3, the m4a has many degrees/levels of compression. Don't forget to use spek to avoid transcodes. I will upload it later in the lossless (Thanks to Beautiful btw) It's already up in my visitor messages but since it's in zippyshare it's just a matter of time before it gets automaticly deleted. mrmcgibblets
m4a = apple lossless. lol, no. ALAC is apple lossless, m4a is definitely lossy. and even a spectral won't completely tell you if its a transcode, unless you know what to look for Link to comment
Skyward
why m4a is notified as "Apple Lossless Audio Codec" too then? (hmm) Edited July 15, 2014 by Skyward Link to comment
Ganjastep
The problem is that you both are technically right... but the real reason is because Apple is retarded. the Apple Lossless Audio Codec and Apple Lossy AAC are both stored within the M4A container. and no, iTunes does not use ALAC. Here is proof: http://filext.com/file-extension/M4A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Lossless http://www.applelossless.com/ Link to comment
