  4. Hello CLLV house fanatics, Since house has been expanding in the genre itself and as a result on this forum, I have noticed that a lot of tracks have more ambiguous styles and sections have been getting more and more complicated to post in and keep relatively organized. I think it would be beneficial to make a sort of "mega thread", so to say, and outline the details of what types are tracks go into which sections. However, being as this is somewhat subjective and I am in no form trying to be the "dictator" of what music is what, It's up to all you CLLV house regulars who have a better understanding of the house genres out of practically anyone to come up with the criteria. I will just lay some basic guidelines for what I have noticed, and you guys feel free to correct, dispute, whatever (perfect) House When you can't find a suitable subgenre for your track, post in House. This is ONLY a scapegoat for tracks that combine so many styles that you cannot think of the actual genre. Example: http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=533486 Progressive House Melodic, slow, steady buildups leading to a "climax" with continued melodic elements. Artists such as Avicii, Axwell, Kaskade, Steve Angello to name a few. Example:http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=588747 Deep House Usually a bit slower in BPM, combines lounge elements with jazz and chicago house, with "springy" hats and symbols and deeper, harder hitting basslines. Example:http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=525401 Tech House (Thanks to csharp1990) Same basic structure as house. Instead of the jazz-style of deep house or melodies of progressive house, tech house uses a techno soundscape full of rugged basslines and dark, minimal, "steel sounding" percussion. Producers such as Joris Voorn, Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge, Justin Martin, Shiba San, Catz n Dogz. Examples: http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=587652 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=584153 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=549034 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=580796 Future House (Thanks to Kruga) Hard to explain what defines a track as being "Future" but id say anything that has a tchami feel or vibe (as he coined the genre) is the easiest explanation right now. Future House sounds like a mixture between Deep House, UK Jackin House and a bit of Tech House with a "swing type" drum/ percussion pattern... "Tchami like" synth is the most telling trait. Examples: http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=588281 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=588551 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=581030 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=585604 Electro Swing (from WIKIPEDIA so don't bitch if you disagree, just correct it ;) ) Electro swing is a musical genre fusing swing styles with contemporary production techniques including house, hip hop, EDM and more. Contemporary artists of the genre incorporate loops, samples, melodies and styles from the swing, jazz and big band era such as the works of Django Reinhardt, Cab Calloway and Benny Goodman to create new, sometimes more club friendly or more accessible sounds. Leading artists who have released complete "Electro Swing" artist albums include Goldfish, Parov Stelar, Caravan Palace, Swingrowers, Dirty Honkers, The Electric Swing Circus, G-Swing, and Waldeck. NuDisco/Indie Dance (Thanks to FrnchPAir) Indie - "House music with enough lyrics so the 'hipsters' can enjoy it. for some reason hipsters want lyrics, ask my brother!" Usually slower tempo, which combines elements of Alternative Rock with electronic beats and synths. Can be considered someone 'pop' like. Examples: http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=587104 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=560099 (Hybrid between indie and nu disco, perfect example of what to post here) http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=545374 Nu Disco - Just like it sounds. Imagine you wanted to make disco today, but with way less lyrics and a house beat that blows regular disco away. Combines elements of traditional disco with new age synths and percussion. Examples: http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=547880 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=586856 Funky/Disco House This is your traditional disco house. Usually faster paced than nu disco with less reliance on synths and more reliance on "groovey" repetitious basslines. Draws heavy influence from 1970-80s style dance music. Examples: http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=585833 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=580784 Jackin/Bassline House (thanks to jantz) Tends to be focused around stronger, longer baselines that wobble and bounce, with punches, stabs and 'dirty' metallic noises commonly used. There also tends to be a louder, more prominent clap ending each bar within the 4x4 structure. Usually faster than most generic house music at anything between 125-135bpm. Closest thing to it for me would be fidget house with Jackin having generally more noises going on than fidget, and less well.... fidgety. Examples of artists who's music often fall in this genre include Hannah Wants, Low Steppa, My Nu Leng, Billy Kenny and Chris Lorenzo, http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=570192 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=577392 http://www.edmc.nu/showthread.php?t=581251 Dance Club C-LECTA SKI's own personal dump section ;) Soulful House Frankly this section confuses me a bit, so would love someones input. But from what I have heard most of the tracks are similar to nu-disco/indie but have less pop influx and more of an "uplifting" feel. Call me out if I am wrong but a lot of the posts in this section are slightly arbitrary. Live Sets/Albums sets, albums, etc... DON'T POST YOUR OWN MIXES! Lossless post your FLAC,WAV,AIF, etc. to lossless audio threads feel free to post more examples! :)
