DDJ1000 gain spike using Color > Filter knob...

Hey, just wondering if it's common for DDJ1000 controllers to have a gain spike when moving the Color knob off center with the Filter effect?  For some reason filtering out the highs also jacks the bass... which annoyingly requires a second hand on the channel gain to keep out of the red.  Anyone know of a way to customize or smooth out that eq'ing?

cheers

What software are you using it with? I don't have this controller, but have an idea of what this might be. Looking at pics of it, I noticed there is not a parameter knob for the filters.. If there is a setting in the software to change that, it might help. On my DJM250mk2, turning the parameter knob down gives a gentle sloped off filter, but if that knob is cranked up you get the opposite with a boost just before the filter slope.

This pic for reference, the line marked as Q=2 here would represent a high Q setting, giving a boost just before the filter cuts, and the farther you turn the filter down, the farther that boost drops to your low frequencies. The one labeled Q=0.71 would represent a low Q setting and gives a much more gentle filter without boosting stuff. It makes for a less dramatic filter sound, but it's much more controllable. I tend to keep my filter Q (or parameter on my mixer) at 50 percent or less unless I want a super obvious and almost obnoxious filter effect.

Probably wrong since I typed this all out, but I hope you can get it figured out!! Filters are so fun.

Yes i think you've got it exactly... the Q jumps in the opposite direction the Color knob is turned (ie. when using Filter).   So it seems this is what I'm looking for... a way to customize the Q of the filter slope.

I'm using ddj100 on serato if that makes a difference.

On a related note: I'm usually in the mix for minutes at a time and my crossfader is always in the middle.  I noticed everything sounded quite hollow and and assumed it was the crossover slope tuned for scratchers and the like.  I was happy to find in Serato settings the option to turn the crossfader to 'fast' so the cutover is 100% almost immediately.  Made such a difference with the fader in the middle.

I had hoped to find a similar control for this 'color' knob we're talking about but no go.  I'm really surprised this isn't at the top of the 'heads up' list for the ddj1000.

I'll post back if i figure out any good news...

cheers

@ Exposis Really, rekordbox has that? Well i suppose that's good news... there is hope. haha... out of curiosity, what's the feature called in rekordbox?  Is it like a configuration setting, or something that you can knob on the fly to adjust the q?

cheers!

edit: it's the PARAM knob in rekordbox... now hunting for the serato equivalent.

Well,  i sent pioneer a support request but....  I don't think it's possible to modify the slopes of the Filter effect.   Ans, as far as i can tell, the ddj1000srt can not control serato effect banks without midi mapping.  ho hum...  The solution in that case is to midi map the levle of the Combo Filter level to the Color knob on the ddj.   It'll work for now.  Thanks man! =]
