A Question of Ethics

A flip side to this argument is that posting track lists def changes the way people listen to your mixes. At least it does for me. When I read the tracklist it makes me listen more for the transitions and what song is playing.

When i dont know the TL the mix is more natural and more of a 'journey'.

I personally post up TL's for most of my mixes, but the more experimental mixes I ususally dont because I dont want people to get bogged down on what song is what, just want them to listen to it as a whole thing.

(Not sure if this will really make sense, kinda hard for me to explain properly)

I believe a tracklist should be posted unless you're putting up a mix of all originals. If someone wants to listen to the transitions or listen for the journey, what difference does it make as long as they listen and learn?

No tracklist - no listen, pure and simple. These are not your tunes, give credit where it is due. I'm really strict when it comes to tracklists, I flat out refuse to listen to any mixes without tracklists posted unless it's by a big name and full of unreleased tunes (and even in that case, you should still list em as "Artist - Untitled Dub" or whatever).

Ever notice how the DJs who are paranoid about others ripping off their mixes are the small, boring ones no one would even bother ripping off anyways? If someone dared to rip off my mixes/transitions then I would find out soon enough if it was done by anybody the least bit relevant, but I've never thought about it twice to be honest.

Bottom line: post the full tracklist, they're not your tunes, you are NOT special and neither are your lame mixes!

Depemds. I never post TLs for anything recorded live. I really dont feel like going back afterwards and trying to find the name of each track I played. Studio mixes on the other hand, I think you should post a tracklist but im not gonna moan if I dont see one. I can understand sometimes you are just messing around at home and you decide to hit record and something magical happens. If you didnt write down your tl as you were mixing its kinda a pain in the ass to go back and figure it out, just like a live set.

Unless you are using a laptop to mix with.... Cause they save your playlist every time you mix, so you got no excuse not to post it :P

it depends.

if the track is full of dubs they wont be likely to get them anyways so what's the point of not posting a tracklist??

and you said his mixes are generic.

it's kinda lame he doesn't post the tracklist.

it's not like he is going to be raising some new talent through his mix if it's generic.
