crazeehorse
Hi guys, after having a heated argument with a fellow dj friend ive decided to get another perspective on things over here. My friend refuses to post tracklistings of his mixes on soundcloud etc for the sake of other people not being able to play them. Personally I have a real problem with this as i consider the role of the dj as an educator as opposed to a tease. And he takes all the credit away from the producers that deserve to be mentioned. the same goes for Dj's in clubs that refuse to give the names of the tracks they play. Am i just being fussy here? Or is it as wrong as i think it to be? (smin) Edited January 26, 2013 by crazeehorse Link to comment

(smin) i have heard both ways.. i personally post the tracklist.. someone else wants to use it so be it.. if they copy the mix i spent time on to make a masterpiece.. il call them out hardcore.. my friend doesnt like to post a tracklist but his mixes are generic and boring.. let him be the way he is, its not going to hurt or help anything.. but yes i do feel it gives the artsits credit a Dj is Lower ranked then a Cover band, we dont even play instruments when we perform... mind as well give the artist that made the track for YOUR mix some credit.. Geezer
I personally don't even bother to listen to a mix that has no tracklist, as I use mixes as a way to find new tunes. I also think it's disrespectful to the artists not to credit them for their work. Edited January 26, 2013 by Geezer Link to comment
bSQUARED08
I'm with you all... I look at DJs as educators in a way. Imo, a good DJ promotes music rather than hoards it. To me, it's really disrespectful to make a mix or play tunes out without mentioning the artists who worked hard to create those specific tunes. Kind of an egotistical thing to do (and reinforcing that whole stereotype about DJs being douchebag 'cool guys'). Link to comment

kresnik
Since the DJ does not own any rights over the tracks, I believe they should post the names. Worst case scenario, I'd Shazam the tracks. Link to comment
Twizzler
When I hear a song I have to have but there's no tracklist that just makes me appreciate the track that much more... Me personally, I keep my tunes to myself, helps me keep me own unique style amongst the locals and plus we all know it takes work to find gems so why put in all that hard work for some one to rip all the bangers out of your mix in mere minutes? Not gunna lie I do it but it just doesn't bring the same level of satisfaction Link to comment
Zero
we all know it takes work to find gems so why put in all that hard work for some one to rip all the bangers out of your mix in mere minutes? Not gunna lie I do it but it just doesn't bring the same level of satisfaction if you're a good dj then the next time you play you will have new, better bangers and won't be worried about lesser DJs jacking your style. I think people fail to realize that the whole purpose of a DJ is to play new music for people to hear so they can find it on their own too. I don't want to fucking go hear some DJ in a bar play banging tunes and then him act like an elitist prick because hes afraid I'm trying to jack his style. its that sense of elitism that tears the music scene apart. dj fanelli
after reading this thread I have decided to always let people know what i'm playing :) you guys make a lot of great points. personally I never kept my music secret before... but in a small town from where I'm from, I tend to have an advantage by using songs other people don't spend the time to find :) Link to comment
