FrnchPAir
You are in the realm of Drum and Bass and should have a bpm range of 172-176 or 86 - 88, but not confined, sometimes as slow as 160 bpm The term halftime comes from removing HALF of the percussion to create a very large sound, and dramatic drop. focused more on the Bass and few kicks and less on the high-end of the hi-hats and snares. So more of a HALF_BEAT. The amen break is usually removed or HALVED in speed. The term halfstep is used because musically, halftime doesnt actually apply. You can find this genre in most DnB artists' VIPs and in the 2nd and 3rd drops, but now is used for the entire track. Sometimes midtempo dubstep, Neuro-Hop, experimental (breaks bass/westcoast bass) , and techy footwerk is confused for this genre but there are clear difference and structure to the track. It may have elements of Neuro, Tech, Jump-up, and Jungle/Ragga but the beat and bpm is the clear indicator. In a count of 8, the kick is on the first, the snare on the third, next kick on the sixth, and a quick kick on the seventh with most hi-hats and amen break removed but may have a few giving it a "trap" succession of hihats or snares. This Genre mixes well with Expermental, Juke/footwerk, faster Trap, and of course most Drum and Bass. That tune is dope af, but does not resemble Drum and Bass in beat pattern and the fastest part is only 162 bpm. It's closer to Dubstep than Halftime DnB. VOID posted it in halftime, but thats not correct. We should probably create a subgenre in the dubstep section called halfstep if people want to keep calling it that Link to comment
Gattsu
@FrnchPAir Please not another subgenre in Dubstep 2 1 2 Link to comment
Infrogneeto
@FrnchPAirI would have to strongly disagree with Posij - Techplant, whilst it is a little swung the snares are on the 2 and 4 which is definitely not halftime, that tune is placed reasonably well in Techstep. Also I believe the reason some people are calling it Halfstep is mainly because the term halftime doesn't make a lot of sense musically but that's a moot point haha 1 Link to comment

Jim Hopper
Bump for a friendly reminder to everyone that 70-75 bpm tracks do not belong here. As mentioned above, a general rule of thumb is if it’s under 80 it most likely does not belong here. Also, not all Halftime music is Halftime DNB. The West Coast Bass style of Halftime music coming from labels such as Saturate generally belongs in the Experimental/Freeform section under the Future/Bass tab.
