What is Ghetto Funk?

Recommended Posts

Ghetto Funk is a style of bass music that derives its influences from funk, breakbeats, hip-hop, and bass music. It is characterized by funk-inspired, breakbeat-style rhythms, wonky wobble bass, and oft contains samples from old funk or hip-hop songs. Typically this style lives between 105-120 bpm and is very high energy music. The drums of ghetto funk tend to be fairly straightforward depending on the bpm and style :more house style ghetto funk will have kick drum on every beat, snare on 2nd and 4th. The more midtempo, glitch/funk inspired styles with typically have a kick on the 1st and 3rd, snare on the 2nd and 4th, and often some kick drums in between to give it that offbeat funk vibe (i.e. kick just before snares, three kicks between snares, etc.)Some very good examples of artists spearheading this sound are Stickybuds, Bobby C Sound TV, WBBL, A.Skillz, etc.

some examples that clearly display ghettofunk traits
