What is Future Beats/Bass

@Sertin Deth I'm not trying to be hostile, it's just that when you say the stuff here sounds like it should be in Future Trap, it just sounds like an untrained ear for these sounds, which can definitely be fixed by immersing yourself more in this style of music. But, yes I'm directly referring to ATCQ, Black sheep, etc. the list goes on and on with 90's rap beats. Most 90's rap beats directly evolved from their Funk brethren of the 80's era before them and these young electronic artists nowadays are borrowing directly from their styles to create new forms of trippy and entrancing funky hip hop beats. By 90's hip hop percs (percussion) I quite literally mean Boom Bap Hip Hop beats, so that was very specific and not broad at all. 90's Boom Bap was named for the poppy and clappy sounding snares that make the style so recognizable. The reason why I say this stuff doesn't belong in Future Trap is because snare/hi hat rolls or not, if it has boom bap Percs and funk leads it belongs here. There's a certain soulful feel to Future Beats that totally sets it apart from Future Trap and to the seasoned ear it's obvious right away where the line is drawn between the two. Now, Future Bass is different from Future Beats as well. I used to think they were so different that the two needed to be separated, but now I feel like that would just be counterproductive. Future Bass has more of a garage feel to it than Future Beats per se, and would be categorized by hip hop percs, but not really boom bap (if it is it's not intentional), and usually has sustained deep bass lines or pulsating bass lines. Now all of that being said, most of the artists that are established in this scene and are considered masters of this genre were either posted by myself, or a very small circle of other posters that know about these artists, so I'm very familiar with what's in this section.

it seems that the error stems from the title listing then, as future beats and future bass (what i have abbreviated as 'future') are listed under the same section. i think this misunderstanding has gotten a little off course, as the body of the argument you just posted was not the point i was trying to make. i only used the term 'future trap' because you mentioned it may be more fitting, but the title i am referring to is indeed future bass, the one that i think should be listed as a trap subsection. i would still conclude that future beats and future bass are vastly different. and trust me, i am fully immersed :icecream:

I agree they are two different sounds, although kinda similar. I used to think they should be separated and each have their own subsection. I don't hold that belief anymore though, I feel like they're fine being grouped together.

Hello Vorq.  Hope you are well today.  I was reading the discussion of Future Beats/Future Bass.  Everything I am reading makes sense.  My only thought every time is this.  Why Can't Future Beats be the main title and Future Bass listed under it as a separate or sub-genre while it still stays under the heading 'Future Beats' but listed below.?.?  Please let me know if I am making sense.

You obviously put a great deal of thought into this genre/section.  Really appreciate it.

Cheers!

I've read from other users that they feel this section has gotten muddy and needs to be cleaned up.

@ BLUE LΛIN I don't want to mis-quote you but I believe I read something in circa 2019 where you mentioned this section needed some cleaning up.  Do you still feel that way?  Am I correct in mentioning you regarding this subject?

Just wanna clarify what do you mean exactly by "cleaning up"? If you're referring to the cllv improvement thread I made a few years ago, I do remember saying that the Future Bass section and a few others needed an intervention, but this was due to the lack of activity in these sections back then.

@ BLUE LΛIN gotcha. I am referring to the cIIv improvement thread. Which was a great read btw. I spent a good amount of time reading, Big Ups.

Maybe “clean up” wasn’t the correct wordage. Personally I find it a bit of a workout searching for Future Bass tracks in the Future Beats/Bass section. I feel I have to sift through many tracks till they are found. Could be my misunderstanding of Future Beats. I’m assuming the tracks that I don’t think fall under Future Bass must be Future Beats.

Please feel free to disregard my statement. Like I mentioned I didn’t want to misquote you.

@sp_ceboy Oh gotchu and all good my g

I haven't been into Future Bass for quite a while and considering that all genres evolve and change, nowadays it's probably kinda difficult to find tracks that have the "Future Bass" signature sound from back then, although I don't think that's an entirely bad thing

@ BLUE LΛIN this is where my confusion comes.  Future Beats and Future Bass are different.  Even @ Vorq agrees they are two different sounds.  Yes, they have similarities. However, the choice was made to group them together in this section and that's where my confusion comes from.  Future Beats doesn't have that 'signature sound' that Future Bass does have (I think it's safe to say).  I think I finally understand.  It's just a lot of work going through this section to find songs with the 'signature sound', as you say, that Future Bass solely seems to have.  That's just the way it played out here on this site.

At least I now have a better understanding cause it was confusing the crud outta me.  All love!
