kskantebet
Okay, so I just upgraded computers, and now have a seriously powerful rig. I have a few questions I will list below: 1. Ableton 9 or FL Studio 11 ? 2. Do you have any recommendations in terms of plugins to run with the above? 3. Soundpack Recommendations? Thanks! Any help is appreciated! -Kyle Link to comment

Bulker
ableton over FL any day of the weeknot a bad idea to have as many daws as you can though! i use protools, ableton, reason, nuendo no offense but this is such bullshit. 3 out of 4 of those mentioned DAW's have the same functionality as FL Studio, excluding Reason. So to answer your question, whether to pick FL or Ableton, why don't you try both. There is not right or wrong way, there is only a workflow that suits you best to create music. For me that is FL Studio. For dethangel its all other DAW. Link to comment

I use FL Studio mainly coz it was popular for beginners n just easy to use. In what way is Ableton better? Because if it is better I might think about switching to using Ableton. Link to comment

FL Studio (easier interface) 2. NI Massive, Nexus2, Sylenth, Izotope Ozone, Sugar Bytes plugins, FabFilter Pro-Q, Dada Life Sausage Fattener 3. Definitely the Vengeance sound packs, some Loopmasters sound packs as well Link to comment
5ive
Cubase. Then 'ReWire' FL Studio into a loaded Cubase session. (Load up Cubase first, then fire up FL studio, inside cubase under the devices tab you will see the option for rewire, click it and toggle tracks 1 and 2 on for sound to flow into cubase). You will be able to have the best of both worlds, and have professional audio score and editing directly on anything you do in FL studio. Not sure if Ableton can do this or not, if it can't, and you don't have access to Cubase, I'd say focus on Ableton over FL Studio. You will want lots of modulation and distortion plugins, standard and convolution reverbs, a frequency analyzer so you can see what your sound(s) is doing in the frequency ranges, (I recommend bluecataudio http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_FreqAnalyst/ because it's free.) And I highly recommend getting Izotope's Ozone to cover your dynamics/mixing plugins. Also a thing I'd like to add - If you end up using a host program like Ableton or Cubase, their stock compressor that comes with the program is all you need for typical compression processing. If you are doing standard run-of-the-mill compression, and it's not doing what you want, it's *almost always* not the compressor's fault. :P For samples, make sure it's at least .wav (16bit/44.1k) quality or better, ...no mp3's! As said above the vengeance sample pack is a good start, then just google samplepacks for whatever genre of music you want to write. ..and remember, less is more. Good luck! Link to comment
