If you're already using FL don't switch DAWs just to maintain a group on a forum. I also use Ableton 9 but that's because that's what I've grown comfortable with. Most knowledge can easily be transferred between the two DAWs. I use operator, but you just need a FM synthesizer to do the same thing. Stick with what you know, unless you're actually keen on learning ableton.

OOOOOOOO yes I am(yeah) (really keen on using ableton)

I agree with Walter, I think you should try and use whatever you've got. Some top end producers still use FL studio. I think if you can get creative and make decent music with limited resources, it'll stand you in better stead for when you can eventually broaden what DAW's you use. Like Walter said, most things relate to other pieces of software, so you won't be going in completely blind.

I only use Ableton cus I got a Lite version with a MIDI controller I bought ages ago, got to terms with it eventually ended up upgrading to Live. I wouldn't turn my nose up at trying other DAW's though.

As well if you can't afford top end Plugins, you can easily find free version similar online and a lot of the time it'll be to your advantage because it won't come with a million presets and you'll have to work it yourself. As well as this you won't have a million other producers using the same softsynth's as you cus they'll all be buzzing around the next 'Must Have' VSTI - which is sometimes cool.

Look at Funtcase. He came to popularity making all his tracks on Reason with only 1 monitor.

FL, Ableton, Cubase, Logic etc are all easily transferable as mentioned previously. It's usually just a case of learning new short cuts for the DAW you wanna try.

This is a sick idea though. I haven't much music in the last couple of years due to my living circumstances but I am back in the UK now and awaiting a new PC for production purposes (arriving in the next few weeks), so I am 100% gonna be in.

On a separate note are we still doing the Clubland Producer Compilations??, coz they were sick and had some right gems.

we can definitely do some compilation shit, I can make sticky threads to post the tunes in for each compilation. We'll see what all we can do. I can also make some stickies of either sounds being produced: i.e. basslines, synths, leads, pads. or we can do it by genre. what do you guys think would work best? I'm thinking probably sound styles but then we may also get a bunch of shit mixed in where we have some people going on and on about trap when somebody is still trying to figure out what the hell a saw wave is. Thoughts?

I agree, sticky the sound styles rather than genre(approve)

Ask the mods to create sub forums for producing based on the DAW you use. glitchhopforum used to have awesome production tips and interviews that were very helpful. A lot of people could benefit from this, myself included.

this just in: people still talking about FL as if its some regressive DAW... yeah, the sound engine sucked up until FL 8 or so, but in 2015 theyre already releasing FL 12. the sound engine is as good as in any other DAW on the market. just take a look at emalkay, deadmau5 and so on - FL Studio.

im starting to dig deeper into carnival right now, keen to show anyone what ive been working on for the last couple of weeks if anyones interested

I think the best way to really learn how to produce better, is convince a friend or another producer that's good to collab with you, and you can kinda see and get an idea of what you may or may not being doing correctly. That's how I learned.
