Producers looking to become professional ASAP

Hi all,

It seems that production is quite inactive so I thought I might try to liven it up a bit. I'm an enthusiastic FL Studio user that's looking to increase my production skills, I'm sure most people here would also like to increase their skills in FL Studio. Other than a few sample packs and a couple of points of advice being given in the producing and the samples forum, there's no real assertiveness in music production here. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge of clubland and always will be but it's definitely lacking in production side. I could be wrong but I guess this site is more about posting famous artist's music and discussing it and only sharing a few samples etc. here and there. I propose that something be done about this and seeing as 100+ people use FL Studio on this site I'm sure you want something to happen too. I mean, who doesn't want their music to hit the top charts and become famous from creating something out of pure passion for music?

I propose that we start some real music production discussion so all who want to can become the best producer they can be. This can be done by allowing only those who have an account on clublandlv and only those who are subscribed to this group view this material (dunno if thats the case atm?) We need to start a proper system where we music producers can get together and share all our knowledge with others that need it to increase our skills. A forum where you can only view the material when you post something of value (even if it's only valuable to you). Then everyone posts their advice on how to make a sound sound right, what samples to use etc. I'm talking being extremely specific not something like "you need to play around with the compressor to make your drum sound right." as a beginner will have no idea. I mean something like "your drum sample is too... so you need to put a compressor on it. What a compressor does to the sound is... so you need to increase/decrease the threshold etc. as this will... your sample." Some piece of advice where the other person learns something, because if they didn't know to put a compressor on it, then they obviously don't know what a compressor is and what it does. I get that most people will be too busy or whatever and just say "watch this video" or something so this is for people who don't want to just be playing other artists songs but also creating their own that they can make money from, people that are that motivated and enthusiastic. Obviously the forums on producer production battles and the production tips help out but we need one that combines everything, from samples, to production contest where someone makes a tune then posts it as flp then next person takes it and adds on re-posts etc,. to someone posting their song and everyone (like I said, everyone has to be motivated to do this) else reviewing it and saying how it can be improved. We need an extremely interactive forum filled with people who actually want to do nothing else but make music so they can be as good as the artists they look up to.

This is what I propose happens, and I truly hope that there are others here who feel this way. I'm 100% ready to make this happen and just need commitment from others. Basically it should be a massive collab. Think as if you were a producer duo but instead of one other producer who you know and are at the computer next to where you can communicate properly; it's like your producer friend is the other members of this group who you can tell about production skills and clubland is your way of communication. This is for the betterment of each others skills and music projects. I just feel someone needs to be more assertive about this.

Tell me what you guys think and let me know if you feel the same way so we can put something together.

I'd be up for this. Starting a Sound Engineering and Music Production course at Point Blank, London in April - so hopefully I'll have some decent knowledge to pass on. As well as this I'm always looking for valid critique on my tracks - pointers and opinions, that aren't just my friends or family (just my mum) being nice. I'd also be more than happy to help or give feedback on anything I can.

I've been scanning around on Clubland's Production section for a while and it always just seems to be loads of vultures looking for free sample packs, it'd be much cooler if it felt like a community where we could share ideas etc.

As well as production techniques and advice, it would be cool to share info on marketing, dealing with records labels, advertising and promoting your music, social media etc.

I use Ableton Live with various plugins (mainly free ones), Maschine and I also record live stuff - vocals, guitars, me tapping a spoon on the floor. I've been messing around producing music for about 2 years, taken it seriously for about a year.

But yeah, I'd be well up for being a part of this, count me in.

Im studying a three year course at my local college in sound creation and music production, I'm already two years into it so I guess you could say I have a few years of ableton and logic under my belt and I would be more than happy to give something back to the production side!

I've taught myself how to use Ableton and Reason, I just don't know how to manipulate instruments to sound I how want yet. All I do is play with settings until what I'm working on sounds bad and then I just close the project and start fresh. I'm down to learn all I can though and if I can contribute at all I will :)

I'm down. I use Logic 9 and can help out there. I'll be keeping an eye out for Ableton tricks and tips as I've been working with a few mates in that. I have ScreenFlow to make some simple-to-understand tutorials. Hopefully I can help out with a few things :)

You know what? I might just get Ableton and learn how to use that, it seems more people use that over FL Studio. I'll watch a bunch of tutorials etc. n yea, lets hope this expands within the next few weeks/months.

If you're already using FL don't switch DAWs just to maintain a group on a forum. I also use Ableton 9 but that's because that's what I've grown comfortable with. Most knowledge can easily be transferred between the two DAWs. I use operator, but you just need a FM synthesizer to do the same thing. Stick with what you know, unless you're actually keen on learning ableton.
