LOTR: Book Vs Film

@sinisterdreams Another recommendation of mine is Star Wars. I've never been a big fan of it but when The 7th movie came out with the big hype I was like let's see if there're Star Wars books too, for I'm more a book person than a movie person. Turned out that there's 150+ Star Wars books. I said challange accepted so in december I started reading in cronological order, all in English (my second language) since most of them are not translated to Hungarian. Now I'm reading the 12th book so far. I like that the books are not essentially related even though they all fit in the SW universe, some of them are just stories written in Star Wars style to say it simply. And also they're written by different writers. These make me feel that most of the books are a little different, so it's not like reading a very long Star Wars history. Not to mention some of them are action with a lof of fight, some of them are horror, some has romance in it too etc. And of course, there are the main books, the novelizations of the movies too. At the end they all connect in some way.

Tolkien has a very special way with words

And not only with words. I remember finishing the books I was like sitting and just looking out of my head and thinking: all of this world, these languages, these creatures, everything out of one single imagination. Mind blowing!

I know the feeling, during the silmarillion i often stoped to stare at something and let it all sink in and let it visualise before my mind's eye ^^

I got the same feeling when reading the 'Strain' trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan

@sinisterdreams I straight up recommend the 'Broken Empire' trilogy, nowhere near as complex as LoTR, but it's definitely gritty.

Slightly more fantasy than sci-fi too, but you should seriously check them out, see what you think!!

1. Prince of Thorns

2. King of Thorns

3. Emperor of Thorns

Thiiiiisss, rly good books, also has a sequel :)

But the best fantasy writer (also rly gritty) is joe abercrombie imo. i got a lot of rly good (read:the best) adult fantasy books on my hardrive.. i will up them if ppl are interested , they are in epub tho. No audiobooks for me
