@hubsa: Its def a bit more complicated than that lol. The method you just described would not sound anything like the bass line he's talking about. It'd just sound like a muddy sine wave...

In that first sound, it sounds like he's got pitch envelope on the sub bass matching the filter envelope. Gives it that rounded movement.

Then layered on top of the sub a high passed synth layer matching the pattern of the sub bass. Gives the illusion that it is 'one' synth. but that vocally texture is sitting a lot higher in the mix, leaving room for the drums/other sounds.

IF you're using massive, you could probably achieve the top layer with a filtered modern talking, and another pitched up osc to give it that really high end "drilling noise" (no clue how to describe it haha)

The bottom line is, filtering the synths so they sit in the mix well and interact with each other though. Hope this helps a bit.

Edit: just listened to the first tune again, it sounds for the sub he's got a bit of self oscillation going with an out of tune osc (pitched down by a few cents) layered with a normal osc. Gives it a bit more movement than a straight sinewave.

^Understanding how others make their 'sounds' is the first step to creating your own.

the first step to creating your own sound is learning how a synth works. If you know how massive, fm8 or your DAW synths work then what is the reason for learning other people's methods?

its to have an understanding in making those types of sounds

besides if you copy someones sound exactly everyones going to know right of the bat

but understanding how they achieve that sound will help in developing your own from scratch

no one actually learns something from thin air they always apply something from someone else
