It's either that or slapdown $1500 for Serato SL3 along with a pair of decent Direct-Drives turntables and a mixer with 3 channels (well at least)

Just learn off vinyl and start building a collection.

VDJ is cool but yea, you will get your ass chewed out by other DJ's haha!

lol yea i was just talking about testing it out. If you want to learn how to actually spin, beatmatching and all learn off vinyl or at least cdj's. If your looking at MIDI's go for the Traktor S4 I recommend it, sturdy and its very similar to a good pair of CDJ's with a 4 channel mixer

if you're suggesting the S4 as a good beginner piece of equipment, then i'd love to know how much you're earning haha. I strongly recommend mixtrack pros, relatively basic but you can at least get a decent feel for it before deciding to spend a bit of cash. Hell, when I was using mixtracks I still managed to make some cash at friends birthdays and stuff, most aren't fussed about what you're using if you keep your rate pretty low.

midi are definately not a must have for dj's(let producers worry about that) if you want to learn the right want and not "cheat" as you said start off small like your are with VDJ learn to count and use your ears not your eyes. I have a buddy who still uses VDJ(he swears by it) i put him on my Cdj 2000's and hes completely lost, almost like hes never mixed a second in his life. He asked me with the sync button was followed by where is the Key matcher at... do yourself a favor and use VDJ to get very very very comfortable with the basics and then toss it immediately!

learn the 2 most important things about Djing(imo of course :) )

1. Counting beats

2. Listening for Correct key when mixing 2 tracks together

cdjs have a bpm counter(technically sync button) so i cant bitch about that cause it does help me make far more superior and intracate mixes alot faster when its live

the bpm counters are wrong half of the time on cdj's anyways, it's just a nice indicator for the rough amount of bpm the track has.

And what i tried with my traktor and controller which also helps if you don't want to rely on your eyes that much is; covering the waveform and some other things on your pc/laptop screen.. That way you'll actually have to listen
