Cue points

So I have been mixing for about a year now. I have been planning my mixes and want to start to mix freestyle without planned sets. What do you guy think the best place to set cues points for freestyling. Also are Dj's like subtronics freestyling or planning their sets track by track?

Well, it depends only on how deep you're into the genre you play and how well you know your tracks (tempo, switches, breaks) If I play for myself I always improvise, actually the best way to "learn" your tracks. If I go to a gig or wanna make a record than obviously rather make a list of the best and which tracks sounds the best on another... If you play on more than 2 decks it's also good to organise your tracks into a separate map (I have pio 350 so have no option for quick search by typing) making it easier to have them right on time by cue... I've never set cue points appart from autocue which puts your tune right to the first bar, but I know that you're able to set various in advance on controllers or more expensive decks.. That's how I do  (I don't know that dj, but seeing artists like Dimension, Sub Focus or Culture Shock, they always play one set even for months or at least parts over and over again. Sub Focus played almost the same like his Essential Mix was in 2009 on 2 festivals I've been on the following months, so no worries  ) 

Man, i've been playing for years and i've planned set only a few times ;d i improvise behind decks mostly, for me DJing is an art of improvisation ;d its good to know the tracks you have in your library and have fun with it ;d that's my opinion ;d
