Ableton - Does high CPU % usage during playback effect the exporting process?

This is to all Ableton users regarding CPU usage and Exporting.

I am currently in the final stages of an electro track for my upcoming EP. My CPU % usage sits at around 67% - 90% and sometimes cracks and pops during playback. I know that i can Freeze and/or flatten my channels to reduce the CPU usage. but what i am wondering is if this High percentage can effect the exporting process. So, will having a less cpu usage result in a cleaner and better export?

I have flattened a couple of channels already just to keep in under 90%. But I didnt want to go to far in case i needed to go back and adjust things.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks guys

I have had it effect exporting before! Especially when using Izotope Ozone on the master and key parts of the track. What I ended up doing is mixing it down in stems and then using izotope on the audio afterwords.

Thanks a bunch! I used Ozone 5 on my master for this one, so i might try that. Most of my channels are in audio form right now, there are just so many of them. only my main bassline is still Midi. I think ill finalize the bassline and bounce it to stems and hope it frees up some cpu bandwidth for the exporting process.

Can you suggest any settings in ozone that helped with high cpu usage? Ive only just started using it to master my tracks

The one thing i have heard before is that if you consolidate all the small tiny clips into single ones. it takes less time to load them from your HDD. I did that a week ago when i found out and it dropped about 10 % off my CPU usage. i was running at about 90% all the time before. now its 67-80 ish % while playing. Im just trying to knock off as much of this cpu power as I possibly can so I can finish up this EP.

Yup those are all good ideas!

No ozone just eats up CPU usage like fucking crazy! As soon as i put one on mine the CPU usage jumps through the roof. I even upgraded my ram on my CPU every thing else runs great! can have like 5-10 massives open and get up to like %70 then add an ozone and boom up to %99! lol.

We just get our rough mix done then bounce it all to audio and use the stems to mix down and master the tune. when its mostly audio it doesnt eat up as much usage.

Good luck! cant wait to hear the EP!

Yes you should get your mixdown set, export then do mastering in a separate instance. Also Ableton's default shows your CPU at 100% When it is actually much less than that. Under Options - Preferences - Audio - CPU Usage Simulator is set to 50%. Meaning that Abletonwill report 100% usage when it is only at 50% actual usage. Hope this helps :)

Ive since resolved my issues with CPU usage by upgrading to a faster computer. I now run an AMD Phenom II x4 965 cpu with 4 gigs of ddr3 at 1333.

Another thing i have learned that helped me a bunch is to TURN OFF YOUR WIFI. it uses massive amounts of cpu power and will slow down most laptops and towers while producing.
